Rules & Requirements

  1. Proof of USA Hockey membership required.  If not a member of USA Hockey, visit their website at www.usahockeyregistration.com and click on "Ice Players and Coaches".

  1. A minimum of 10 skaters is needed for a section to run.  Section enrollment will close when a maximum of 18 players have registered.

  1. Three skaters from each team are on the ice during each shift.  This format opens up the play and promotes creativity with the puck.  The smaller playing area also forces players to make quick decisions, while reading and reacting to the action.

  1. The sessions are 40 minutes in duration.  The buzzer will sound for a line change each minute.  Players change on the fly, creating transition speed.  When performed correctly, the shifts are played at a high intensity, and with as little as two lines, it develops the athlete's conditioning.

  1. There are no off-sides, no icings, and no whistles to stop the continuous flow of play.  As a goal is scored, the puck is pulled out of the net and moved up as quickly as possible, counter-attacking the opposition, who have retreated to their defensive end.

  1. There is no checking allowed!  The objective is to develop the players' technical skills.  Any checking will result in a penalty; penalties result in a penalty shot.  If the foul is deemed intentional (causes an injury or potential injury), the player in fault will be removed from the game.  Three removals and the player is out for the remainder of the session.

  1. Coaches will be on the ice.  They are there to help direct the players on and off the playing surfaces.  As the session advances, coaches may step aside and watch the kids develop their own communication and leadership skills.
